How common are car accidents that are caused by drunk drivers?

by | Mar 31, 2017 | Uncategorized

Of all the car accidents that occur on the roadways in America, many people would probably expect that there are a wide variety of reasons for these crashes. In some, distracted driving is the cause, as more and more drivers are using their cellphones or other electronic devices while driving. In others, a simple lack of attention – even momentarily – can cause a “fender-bender.” But, how common are car accidents that are caused by drunk drivers?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the simple answer to this question is, “way too common.” In fact, the CDC reports that 28 people die in America every day due to being involved in a car accident that is caused by a drunk driver. That number is shocking.

Most people know that car accidents are one of the main causes of deaths in America. But, many of our readers may be surprised to learn that, of all traffic-related deaths in a single year – 2014 – almost a full one-third of those traffic-related deaths were caused by drunk drivers.

For anyone in Minnesota who has been involved in a car accident that was caused by a drunk driver and was lucky enough to survive, there may be legal options. If the victims suffered injuries, a personal injury lawsuit may be possible in order to attempt to recover compensation from the negligent driver. Drunk driving is a serious problem in America, and it is a reckless behavior that can lead to serious injuries – and even fatalities.
